Getting Moving With Statistics

You may have seen a tweet of ours a few weeks ago about measuring our pulse. We were trying to find a way of calculating how many times our heart beats in a day. This led to some great discussions about what affects our heart rate and what an ideal heart rate is.

We found out that it's good to get your heart rate up and do some physical activity everyday. We learned that this can help us to think more clearly, focus and therefore achieve more in our learning. It was also interesting to find out that a lower heart rate when resting is often a sign of good health.

Our consensus was that we should try to integrate more fitness in our learning this term, which opened up some opportunities linking with our statistics focus.

Here are some of the activities we've been involved in over the last couple of weeks...

  1. My favourite part about statistics so far is your heart rate. When you have to see how many beats for 15 seconds then multiply it by 4.

  2. My favourite task around statistics was the amount of times our heart beats in one minute after running around the field.

  3. I learnt that it's easier to test your heart rate by only testing it for 15 seconds

  4. I tried my best at the ring toss but I learnt how to graph it thanks mr k.

  5. I never seen a stem and leaf graph before but now I know how to use it.

  6. In statistics I learned that the mode is the most common number.

  7. It's easier to predict what our heart rate is going to be than figuring it out.

  8. The ring toss was hard I didn't get any on after that we did a graph and it was
Fun for some of the people I predicted right

  9. I learned how to use a steam and leaf graph and i know how to put any peace of data onto one.

  10. My favourite part in stats is when mr k took us out side to do b-ball shots and we had to do a line graph and bar graph on it

  11. My favourite task when we were doing statistics was testing our pulse rate after we did the sloth dance then adding it to the steam and leaf graph

  12. Yeah it was pretty fun my favourite part so far was when we had to run around the field and test our heart rate for 15 seconds and times it by 4.

  14. During statistics I got more confident with making graphs on ICT and it was good for me to extend myself in my learning from last year.

  15. My favourite task around statistics was when we went outside and did the basketball shots, I liked it because you only got 2 minutes to try and get as many balls in, at the end we recorded our data by using a line graph and some of us chose to use a bar graph.

  17. I noticed that my hart rate was getting stronger and I can record how much stronger it gets over the week thanks to leaning how to youse stem and leaf graph works.
