Failing Forward

Our main inquiry theme this term is called 'Innovation, Enterprise and Creativity'.

As well as investigating technological design and processes, we will also be making links between this theme and the traits that great learners possess. Many of the world's most successful entrepreneurs and creative individuals have failed many times before developing an idea or concept that positively changed their life and that of others. The fact that these people were able to pick themselves up in the face of adversity and find new possibilities may well have been their most powerful trait. Some people refer to this as 'failing-forward'.

Take a look at this clip about Alex Zanardi...

TOUCH THE SKY from tim hahne on Vimeo.

Can we pinpoint exactly what it was inside of him that made him find a new passion, even after being through an horrific accident? Why would he possibly be happier now?

Could this be a common theme with many successful people? How many other people can we find out about whose ability to fail-forward was a key part of their success? And finally... So what? What does this mean for us and what connections can we make?

  1. Can we pinpoint exactly what it was inside of him that made him find a new passion, even after being through an horrific accident ? He still believed in his racing passion which i think is believing in himself.

Why would he possibly be happier now? maybe because he is achieving more then he thought he would of when he got out of hospital.

Could this be a common theme with many successful people? yes because some successful who have been in accidents before have achieved heaps even if they have disabilities and yeah.

How many other people can we find out about whose ability to fail-forward was a key part of their success? Michael Jordan

  2. He might be possibley happyer because he can still support the racers and he learneh his lesson. Alot of famous people probley failed forward but they might be happy they failed forward so the learned a lesson. Well people in Room 14 fail forward all the time but then at least they learned something. I can make a connection, I fail forward alot of the time but sometimes im happy that I fail forward because I learned a lesson.

  3. I think that he had a lot of courage to keep on following his passion of racing.

  4. This is touching as he has found a way to still do SOMETHING, and stay happy. He has overcome a barrier, a barrier that many people do not pass. This gives me more hope for my little sister. If he can live with NO legs, my little sister can live with one, right? I understand failing-forward better. But it isn't a fail, it's a success.

  5. When I first saw that he had no legs I felt sorry for him but then when I realised he was happy and that he has got a little bike thing that he can ride I felt more happy. I think he is really happy even though he as got no legs.

  6. I think he is pretty happy because, he can still drive with fake legs, and win on a bicycle with no legs at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
So if we like, lose a arm, there's still stuff out there in the world, that you could do like, juggling the most balls with one hand. I have no connections.
