First Aid Training

Today we were lucky enough to have Stacey from the Red Cross spend the day in Room 14 teaching us about first aid.

We learned about what we should do when confronted with a range of emergency situations. These included things like shock, nosebleeds, broken bones, burns, poisons, and seizures to name a few.

When we are with someone who is in need of medical treatment, we now know about DRSABC, which stand for a recommended process we should follow.

D = Danger (check for dangers)
R = Response (check the person to see if they are conscious)
S = Send for help
A = Airway (check if the person's airways are clear)
B = Breathing (check if the person is breathing)
C = Circulation (check for bleeding)

We enjoyed taking part in role play activities this afternoon, where we acted out some emergency scenarios in groups. Stacey gave us constructive feedback on how we performed.

Thank you to Stacey for running the programme. All of us will no doubt encounter emergency situations in our lives, so it is great that we now have a foundation set of first aid skills to build on.

  2. It was fun doing the first aid training because i didn't know anything about it and i was surprised with how well Rm 14 went with it. Hope the training will help us in the future because something dangerous will happen in our lives at some time.

  4. Now I have realised how lucky we were to have the opportunity to learn first aid. They are very critical skills and not many people have them!

  5. HIGHLIGHT: I liked this day of activity because we did a whole bunch of different things like, acting out situation that are possible to happen. I liked how we had to practice helping someone with a buddy. It was really weird to see fake skin that has a piece of glass or cut in it and it looked so realistic.

    CHALLENGE: I really didnt like acting out the situations in frount of the class because I forgot the words but in my defence we didn't have enough time to work on our prefomance. I really got annoyed with the circle everyone was in because my feet was all squished.
